One of the best known cherries producing a vase shaped crown that droops somewhat when old. It attains a height of 8-9m, the young leaves are bronze coloured turning deep green and yellow-orange in the autumn. The flowers are abundant in April to early may they are pure pink and double and form a mass of colour. the tree seldom produces fruit, Hardy it tolerates windy sites and all soil except waterlogged soil. Mix a good compost with the soil and stake well.
