We have had a run of lovely weather just lately aiding great growth in our crops, with our new perennial range in full flower the nursery has never looked so colourful!! In this round of news I thought I would take the opportunity to highlight some of our plants which are looking great just now.
Rudbeckia sullivantii Goldsturm:
‘Coneflower’ Easy to grow perennial producing large golden-yellow flower heads with black conical centres, in late summer & autumn. Prefers full sun or light shade & fertile, heavy but well-drained soil, but tolerant of most soils. Height.60cm..Spread.45cm
Verbena bonariensis:
Stiff, upright perennial with rough branching stems bearing clusters of purplish-mauve flowers from midsummer to autumn. Grow in well-drained, fertile soil in full sun. Superb specimen if grouped in the border or gravel garden. Height.150cm..Spread.45cm.
Pennisetum alopecuroides Hamelyn
Fountain Grass. A clump-forming perennial grass with narrow dark green leaves, turning gold in autumn. Attractive greenish white flowers, grey-brown when mature in summer.
Miscanthus sinensis Morning Light:
Perennial grass of narrow, curved leaves with white margins giving a silvery effect. Grow in moist but well-drained soil in full sun & protect from excessive wet in winter. Tolerant of a wide range of conditions. Height..1.2m.
Caryopteris x clandonensis White Surprise
A new form of Caryopteris (2005), White Surprise has really bright foliage, with clean white edges to the dark, slightly greyish green leaves. This makes it the perfect background for the rich blue flowers. It reaches about 3 ft high and its attractive foliage makes it a fantastic addition to any garden or container.
Pittosporum tenuifolium Wrinkled Blue:
Attractive silvery-blue-grey foliage textured with waves giving a wrinkled appearance densely cover this evergreen shrub making it an excellent candidate for a hedge or screen. It responds well to trimming and therefore it can be used to create topiary items such as balls and cones. Its vibrant foliage fits well in any border, hardy but does not tolerate waterlogged soils.
The above is just a minute snippet of what we have to offer I hope it has shown an insight into the level of plant quality we aim to provide.
Now we are in August we have finished potting our last 5000 3 Litre plants and we move over to our new 10L production of specimen shrubs which will be available late winter to early spring. The picture below is our 2 bay tunnel housing the last of this year’s 3L production.
